This study provides new insights into the carbonation behavior of BOF slag through composition-driven phase chemistry and contributes to the development of CO₂ sequestration technologies utilizing steelmaking by-products—an important step toward more sustainable metallurgical processes.
What makes me particularly proud is that this was not a project assigned to the student. The core scientific question, experimental strategy, and much of the intellectual development were initiated by Jaehoon Park himself. This recognition is therefore a testament not only to the quality of the science, but also to his growth as an independent researcher.
As supervisors, we provide guidance, resources, and an environment in which research can flourish. However, truly impactful research emerges when talented young researchers develop their own ideas, pursue them with determination, and create new knowledge through their efforts. This work is an excellent example of that process.
Congratulations, Jaehoon, on this well-deserved achievement. I am delighted to see your originality, dedication, and scientific curiosity recognized by the international metallurgy community, and I look forward to seeing your future contributions to sustainable metallurgy.
