TMS AnnualMeeting 2026(at San Diego, CA)

From March 16 to 19, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the #TMSAnnualMeeting in sunny San Diego, CA! It’s one of the world’s biggest conferences on materials science, and I was so excited to be part of it. My group proudly presented three different talks during the event!
In high-temperature metallurgical processes like continuous casting and refining, understanding how phases change and the different states of mold flux/slag are crucial for effective heat transfer, quality, and stability. Even though conditions can be quite unsteady—such as temperature fluctuations and the coexistence of solid and gas phases during operations—traditional methods typically rely on steady-state, post-processing analysis. That’s why this group is working on exciting new technologies to enable next-generation control. They are studying how crystallization occurs during temperature changes and developing sensors that allow real-time, non-contact visualization of high-temperature melts, making the process safer and more efficient.
The conference was truly rewarding, giving me the wonderful opportunity to reconnect with colleagues who have been doing similar research, and I also met some potential new collaborators for exciting joint projects.
